God Hates Idol Worship

This article was written especially for my Catholic relatives and friends.
As a former member of the Catholic Church I care about your spiritual welfare.
All of you who want to find the truth about our true and living God, I would like to invite you to study with me about worship made to idols.

No one can know God and His requirements without reading His words. According to the Bible, truth of what pleases or displeases God, is found only in the Bible. In my study of Scriptures, I have found the truth and seperated myself from false teaching and now I am a professing member of the pristine church or the congregation that was built and belongs to Jesus Christ.

First of all I would like to show you that all Scriptures of the Bible come from God or is God breathed, and written scripture of the Bible is all we need to prove our worship to God. Read with me now 2nd Timothy 3: (16-17) says:

" All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

2nd Peter 1: (20-21) says the same: "Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

Now you can see that Bible scriptures come from God and we can find the truth only in the Bible. Now do not let Satan or any one tell you that; "Our church wrote the Bible so God wanted us to change the Bible and we now give you the Catechism, or the book of Mormon and many other books written after the Bible." The history of the Bereans in the Bible, they studied the Bible scriptures daily to make certain what they were being taught was the truth. We can only study the Bible to know and make certain our leaders are not lying to us about what pleases God or what is disgusting to God.

God loves people who humble themselves and then they search the scriptures daily to learn the truth. John 3:21 says:
"Whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

First we need to answer this question, what does God identify and condemn as being an idol or what is idolatry? Idolatry is first religious superstition. The sins of idolatry take many different forms. The Apostle Paul explains how different sins of selfishness and entertainment are just another form of idolatry that separates the individual from God .The apostle Paul warns us in Colossians 3:5
"Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry."
Apostle Paul is showing in the above verse that unrepented sins when committed, separate and stand between God and the individual. As you can see anything that is put between self and God becomes idolatry. All sins must be repented to stand in the presence of God.

What then is an idol?
An idol is anyone or anything being worshipped (entertained or adored) that stands between God and the person who is worshiping. It is believed by doctors of psychiatry that humans are created with a great need to worship God. We question from the seat of the emotion of man, for what psychological reason does man create a statue, image, icon, or picture of his god? The answer to the above question is easy. He does it so he can worship what he has created with his hands. The nature of man is first to create illusion and deceive self and then to be rebellious against his creator. When a man makes his own god, that in essence is self deceiving, he makes himself the creator over his god. That god does not require anything from man who is the creator of his man made god. If the man sins against his idol god, the idol god will not punish the man for his wickedness. The idol god makes no law or no punishment for it’s maker. The one who makes an idol to worship can say to his idol god, "Don’t tell me what I must do." It is a rebellious nature of the proud man to reject anyone telling him what he must do. The man deceives himself and creates a lie in the form of a false god that ask nothing of him. Have you ever wondered what our true and living God thinks about people who worship idols? If you want to find out what God has to say about the creation and worshiping of idols, (statues, icons, pictures) please read the scriptures in this article very carefully.

Ten years ago I was the one who had knelt down to pray to the picture of Mary because I was taught by church leaders that she was the mediator between people and God. The Bible clearly says in 1-st Timothy 2:5 that:

"For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus who gave himself as a ransom for all men-the testimony given in its proper time."

Now you can understand that only our Lord Jesus Christ can mediate between you and God. You can pray to God and ask Him for help in your needs only through Jesus Christ. I also prayed, knelt, and put my trust in many other idols that were made by man and placed in the Catholic Church. I was the one who carried around little idols made by man which supposed to be images of Jesus. I had many pictures of Mary and other idols of supposedly Catholic saints hanging on my walls in my house. I didn’t realize that idols could not save me or that God hated my trust and the idolize worship I made to them. Reading the Bible I learned that I was sinning against God in idolatry. I immediately repented and prayed to God to forgive me my sins.

Apostle Paul teaches us in Acts 10:(25-26) that we are not to kneel at anyone’s feet.
"As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. Stand up, he said, I am only a man myself."

Now some teach that Peter was the first Pope. If the apostle Peter, the servant of God did not allow Cornelius to kneel at his feet, why does the Pope in Rome allow people to kneel at his feet to pay honor and glory that belongs only to God? Is Roman Pope greater than the apostles? Who gave him the authority to accept the name "holy father?" Read what the Bible teaches us about the deceitful man like the Pope in 2-nd Thessalonians 2:(3-4):

"Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God."

Matthew 23:(9-10) says:

"And do not call anyone on earth "father", for you have one Father, and He is in heaven. Nor are you to be called teacher, for you have one Teacher, the Christ."

Yes, we have only one Father, our true and living God and He lives in heaven. Give honor and glory only to Him. The Bible teaches us in Revelation 15:4 who should we fear and worship and who is to be identified as holy Father.

"Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.

Apostle John in Revelation 22:8 tells us what the angel said to him when he tried to kneel at his feet.
"I, John, and the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me: Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets and of all who keep the words of this book. Worship God! "

As you see we can not kneel before anyone or anything (person such as the pope, statue, pictures of Mary, nor other saints, angels, icon, etc. ) but only to our God who lives in heaven. If you do not believe that God hates idol worship, please continue to go with me through the scriptures and discover the will of God for yourself so you can know how to please God in your worship to Him as I did.

In John 3: (23-24) Jesus said that
"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

God loves people who love truth and search diligently to find what is the will of God for His people. God loves the man or woman who will humble self to learn the truth. After learning what is truth you will surely act immediately to add the truth to your life to please God. Pray to God and He will help you to understand His words if you really want to know and act upon His truth. In the Old Testament, God gave ten commandments to His people. One of the ten commandments God gave to ancient Israel says: Exodus 20: (3-6).

"3:You shall have no other gods before me. 4: You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5: You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6: but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

As you can see in the above verses, our God is a jealous God. Our creator God does not want you to make or worship idols. God does not want us to put any idol before Him in our life or in our worship to him. We can not depend on empty dumb idols to help or to save us. The idols can not hear you when you talk to them, they can not save you because they are only images created by man. God created you and He wants you to worship only Him. Isaiah 44:(9-11) says:

"All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind; they are ignorant, to their own shame. Who would form a god or mold an image that profits him nothing? Surely his companions would be ashamed."

This is what the children of Israel did when Moses was on the mountain receiving the law of God. They made a lifeless golden calf and said:
" This is your god, o Israel that brought you out of the land of Egypt."
Read about it in Exodus 32. They preferred a golden calf god that they could see. They wanted a god whose presence they could experience. But a self made god is totally incapable of inspiring genuine awe in any heart, or producing a nobler way of life in any life. Psalm 115 (3-8) says:

"3: Our God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases Him. 4: But their idols are silver and gold, made by the hands of men. 5: They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see; 6: They have ears , but they cannot hear, noses, but they cannot smell; 7: They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but they cannot walk; nor can they utter a sound with their throats. 8: Those who make them will be like them and so will all who trust in them."

Please, read what God has to say through His prophet Isaiah: See Isaiah 44:(12-20).

" 12:The blacksmith takes a tool and works with it in the coals; he shapes an idol with hammers, he forges it with the might of his arm. He gets hungry and loses his strength; he drinks no water and grows faint. 13: The carpenter measures with a line and makes an outline with a marker; he roughs it out with chisels and marks it with compasses. He shapes it in the form of man, of man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a shrine. 14: He cut down cedars, or perhaps took a cypress or oak. He let it grow among the trees of the forest, or planted a pine, and the rain made it grow. 15: It is man’s fuel for burning; some of it he takes and warms himself, he kindles a fire and bakes bread. But he also fashions a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it. 16: Half of the wood he burns in the fire; over it he prepares his meal, he roasts his meat and eats his fill. He also warms himself and says, "Ah! I am warm; I see the fire." 17: From the rest he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships. He prays to it and says, "Save me; you are my god." 18: They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand. 19: No one stops to think, no one has the knowledge or understanding to say, "Half of it I used for fuel; I even baked bread over its coals, I roasted meat and I ate. Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left? Shall I bow down to a block of wood?" 20: He feeds on ashes, a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say, "Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?"

Yes, we can allow an idol to come between us and God and this self deception is the world’s greatest lie. There is no greater lie than to lie to self. Every big or little thing made that comes between man and God is a lie. Our God in heaven is the only God you should look for, worship and praise. Our almighty creator God says: Jeremiah 25: (6-7).

"Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them; do not provoke me to anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you." But you didn’t listen to me, declares the Lord, and you have provoked me with what your hands have made, and you have brought harm to yourselves."

There’s only one God which lives in heaven and only He can answer your prayer. Like He said, all idols have ears but they can not hear you, because they are made by man from the earth, stone, gold, silver or wood. A figment of man’s imagination can not help you while you carry it around or while you are flying an airplane, driving your wagon or your car. The icon, photo, or image can not help you in any situation with God. Talk to God and pray to Him. If it is His will, He will help you. Isaiah 45: (20-24) says:

"20:Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save. 21: Declare what is to be, present it-let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Wasn’t it I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior, there is none but me. 22: Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth, for I am God, and there is no other. 23: By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. 24: They will say of me, "In the Lord alone are righteousness and strength. All who have raged against him will come to him and be put to shame. "

You can see that a man made god does not have any value and it is a big abomination
(a despicable thing) in the eyes of our God. Put your trust in God and He will help and save you. If you trust and obey God, He will not punish you when He comes to judge us. Read what our Creator warns us about the coming day of His judgment. Isaiah 17: (7-8)7:

"In that day men will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel. 8: They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles and the incense altars their fingers have made."

2 Thessalonians 1:(8-10)" He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with the everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed."

Isaiah 30: 22" Then you will defile your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold: you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them " Away with you!" Isaiah 42:17 17: ... those who trust in idols, who say to images, "You are our gods", will be turned back in utter shame. "

Jeremiah 10: (3-15) says that all idols are like scarecrows in the field and they do not have any power.
"3: For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. 4: They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. 5: Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. So do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good. 6: No one is like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. 7: Who should not revere you, O King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you. 8: They are all senseless and foolish; they are taught by worthless wooden idols. 9: Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish and gold from Upahaz. What the craftsmen and goldsmith have made is then dressed in blue and purple-all made by skilled workers. 10: But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath. 11: Tell them this: These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under the heavens. 12: But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. 13: When He thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses. 14: Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed by his idols. His images are a fraud; they have no breath in them. 15: They are worthless, the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish. 16: He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the Maker of all things, including Israel, the tribe of his inheritance the Lord Almighty is his name. "

Our mighty God in His holy Bible tells us how worthless are the false gods that are made by man. Habakkuk 2: (18-20) 18:
"Of what value is an idol , since a man has carved it? Or an image that teaches lies? For he who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak. 19: Woe to him who says to wood, "Come to life!" Or to lifeless stone, "Wake up!" Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.20: But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him. "

Now let’s read Isaiah 2: (8-9) and find out what he says about people who do not know our true and living God.
"8: Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made. 9: And the mean man is bowed down, and the great man is brought low: therefore forgive them not. Now hear the words of Jesus see Rev. 21:(3-8). 3. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. "4: He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." 5: He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6: He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7: He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8: But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars— their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

In the above verses, Jesus shows clearly that he equates idolatry equal to murder, cowardice, sexual immorality and lies. All of the sins mentioned above separates man from God. When Jesus returns what will your work be like, will you have any true works for God? Jesus said; Revelation 22:(12-15) 12:

"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 13: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14: Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15: Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood."

In the New Testament, we have an example of the apostle Paul condemning the worship of idols and men who would serve God with human hands. Acts 17:(22-31) 22:

"Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23: For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you." 24: The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25: And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26: From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27: God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28: For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 29: Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone— an image made by man’s design and skill. 30: In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31: For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."

Again, apostle Paul gives us another warning and another example against idolatry and worshipping things created by man. Romans 1:(21-25) 21.

"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22: Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23: and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24: Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25: They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator— who is forever praised. Amen. "

The Apostle Paul said to the Thessalonians:
"Their gods were many, our God is one. Their gods were dead, our God is alive. Their gods were false, our God is the true and living God."

I hope you do believe that the church (the assembly) is not a building made by man. We, God’s people are the temple (the church) of God no matter where we meet. The church of God is spiritual and it is not made by human hands. Jesus proclaims he will build his church
Matthew 16:18.
"We need to be careful of false teachers who bring in a new doctrine against God. We are warned that the church of Christ is spiritual and is not made or worshipped by the hands of man."

1 Cor. 3:(11-18).
"11:For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12: If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. 14: If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15: If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. 16: Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you." 17: If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple. 18: Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise."

2 Cor 6: ( 16-18).
"16: What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." 17: "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." 18: "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty"

The Hebrew writer reveals that Christ Jesus does not dwell in houses, pictures, statues or idols made by the hands of men.

Hebrews 9:24
"For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence."

If our Lord Jesus went to heaven, can we make a false image of Him and place it in the building? Can we kneel at that image and worship it? Is the statue, the picture the true Jesus? We must beware, our God is a jealous God. Our God sees obeisance to pictures, icons, statues, and wicked desires as wanting to do service and honor to other gods. We are warned that we are not to allow anyone or anything, physically or psychologically to come between us and our creator God. The Apostle Paul in his 1-st letter to Corinthians 6: ( 9-10 ) warns us:

"Do you know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Our true and living God has revealed Himself in three ways. First, He revealed Himself in the natural world. Whether you are familiar with the Bible or not, you have undoubtedly heard the often quoted statement found in Psalm 19:1.
"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies proclaim the work of His hands." In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

The heavens and the earth are the evidences of God’s Intelligence and Power. Our God is an awesome God. Secondly, the personal qualities of God are revealed in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, and again the Bible says in John 1:18

"No man has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him."

Jesus did not cease to be deity when He came to earth, but He took on Him the additional experience of human nature. He was both God and man, perfect God and perfect man, an absolutely unique Being. Jesus Christ is the only such person who has ever lived on this earth, and in heaven. Third, God has revealed Himself in the Scriptures, the word of God, which was written only once by the Jews (Jude 3). The decisions of God have been entrusted oly to the Jews with the very words of God. Read about it in Romans 3:(1-3).

Just as there are some things about God that we can learn from nature, or we can learn from the person of Jesus Christ, there are some things we cannot know about Him except in the revelation of His word.
2 Timothy 3:16. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God".
"Inspiration" in that passage simply means God-breathed. So the Scriptures are the words of God in the truest meaning of those words-He spoke them. They are His words. No one has ever been known to come to God without having read or heard the Bible taught. From the nature, from the person of Jesus, and from God’s word, we can seek Him and know Him and live with Him daily.

Remember what Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 1:9
"How you turned TO GOD, FROM IDOLS to serve the living and true God."

Genuine Christianity as it is described in the New Testament is found on and exist on the premise that there is a body of absolute truth, outside ourselves; namely the Bible, the Word of God. But the fellow who has his own individualistic god does not accept the Bible as the Word of Truth. Even so, the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 8: (5-7):

"For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth ( as indeed there are many gods and many lords), yet for us there is but one God, the Father from whom all things come, and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we live"

But not everyone knows there are false gods. Some people are still so accustomed to idols..." Yes, people create mental images of their own gods. Such a god, made by human hands becomes to each person what that person would like his god to be like and act like-just what he thinks god is and ought to do.

Our God who lives in heaven not only loves, but He can be loved. He not only knows, but He can be known. He not only speaks, He can be spoken to. He is one who not only cares about our every burden and care, but who controls the circumstances of our lives as to work in us the accomplishment of His will. He supplies us strength when we demonstrate weakness. He provides wisdom when we act foolishly. His grace is sufficient for our needs when we falter and faint. Our God is the living and true God. He is a living reality. He is one whose fellowship and communion for which our souls long and thirst. The living and true God makes himself available to all people through His son Jesus Christ, who said of himself in John 14:6

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you know him and have seen him."

So, I am urging you from the depth of my heart, to come to God through Christ today. It is a most urgent matter, because you see, every day you delay, the more of your life slips by without the blessings of communion with the living and true God. Please, consider in your heart the following questions: 1. Is that Jesus we know, worship and pray to a real Jesus, or is it a fake god fashioned by men out of gold, silver or wood? 2. Whom do you worship? Is it true God or is it a man made figure or altar? Then, break with your idols, destroy and throw them away whatever they are, and turn to God now. Give honor and glory only to our Creator who lives in heaven.

We must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Find the true spiritual Church or asselbly of Christ and the members of this church will study the Bible with you and teach you what to do to be saved. Humble your heart to become teachable like a little child (Matthew 18:3), confess Jesus ( Romans 10:9-10) , repent and be immersed in water and your spirit will be restored or fathered again in the name of Christ for the forgiveness of your past sins (Acts 2:38) ;
Rom. 6:1-7; (1-stPet:1:3). Then, live the rest of your life in this beautiful relationship as a worshiper of the living God.
